Co-founder and Chief Technology Officer
Dr. Sek Chai is the Chief Technology Officer and co-founder of Latent AI. A 20-year technology veteran, he designs Latent AI’s technology strategy and roadmaps. He leads an interdisciplinary research and development team to cultivate federal and commercial business engagements. He guides products and solutions towards customer success, and he develops partnerships and collaborations with academia and industry partners. He is focused on technologies and engineering processes to improve operational AI system performance and success in deployment. Prior to Latent AI, Dr. Chai was a technical director at SRI International (SRI). In this role, he managed and developed the technology portfolio and strategy for low-power embedded computer vision and machine learning systems. He served as the principal investigator (PI) in a number of programs, including DARPA Lifelong Learning Machines (L2M), DARPA Radio Frequency Machine Learning Systems (RFMLS), IARPA RAVEN, DARPA Adaptable Sensor (ADAPT), ONR Approximate Computing, and NSF Resilient Computing. And prior to SRI, he developed imaging and video solutions at Motorola Labs and Motorola’s Semiconductor Products Sector (SPS). Dr. Chai has numerous publications and issued patents in both theoretical and applied research in advanced computing systems and applications. He serves as a reviewer and program committee member for many scientific workshops and conferences in the field. For more than a decade, he oversaw the Embedded Vision Workshop (EVW) series. He founded the Vision Industry and Entrepreneur Workshop (VIEW) series, catered specifically for startups, that were later integrated into the main Computer Vision and Pattern Recognition (CVPR) conference event. He co-edited and contributed to books on Embedded Computer Vision. He served as guest editor for several journal special issues on embedded vision and machine learning. Dr. Chai received his PhD in Electrical and Computer Engineering at Georgia Institute of Technology. He is a senior member of IEEE and ACM.
