American System Lands $496M DOD Contract for Engineering Support

American Systems has received a maximum $496M contract to provide engineering and technical support to the Office of the Undersecretary of Defense for Research and Engineering.

Washington Headquarters Services awarded the indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity contract for research, development, test and evaluation technical and engineering services in support of the Department of Defense's mission to create warfighting technologies and advanced technological capabilities, American Systems said Monday.

“We are proud to provide highly-technical subject matter expertise to our customers by delivering our Strategic Solutions to meet their mission requirements," said American Systems CEO and President Peter Smith, a Potomac Officers Club member and three-time Wash100 winner.

The OUSD (R&E) enterprise is made up of the Directorate of Defense Research and Engineering for Advanced Capabilities and the Directorate of Defense Research and Engineering for modernization.

American Systems highlighted 11 modernization priority areas in the DOD office: artificial intelligence and machine learning, autonomy, biotechnology, cyber, directed energy, fully networked command, command and control communications, hypersonics, microelectronics, space, quantum science and 5G network technology.

“This is one more example of our capabilities aligning with national priority programs and enabling the OUSD (R&E) to accelerate concept to capability—we know what’s at stake,” Smith added.

Washington Headquarters Services, the contracting activity, was created to provide administrative and management support to DOD components and military departments in the National Capital Region and elsewhere.

Headquartered in Virginia, American Systems is a federal government contractor that provides strategic solutions in the areas of enterprise information technology, test and evaluation, acquisition and lifecycle support, engineering and analysis and training.

The company also specializes in consultancy, C4ISR, cable plant installation, health care and acquisition and lifecycle support.
