Andro to Develop Machine Learning Platform Under Army SBIR Funding

The Department of Defense has awarded Andro Computational Solutions several contracts worth $20 million for military machine learning technology development.

According to a press release, the assistant secretary of the army for acquisition, logistics and technology awarded Andro a Phase I Small Business Innovation Research contract to develop DeepGenerator, a solution that enables rapid data generation enhancing specific ML models. According to the company’s experts, DeppGenerator will allow developers to use more computer visual applications, threat detection technologies and synthetically generated data to improve AI performance.

The company also secured future funding to mature DeepGenerator’s capabilities. The subsequent round of awards will be announced in the coming weeks, the Rome Sentinel reported Thursday.

The U.S. military has been working to improve ML integration across several areas.

In October, the Defense Health Agency started implementing AI, ML and other emerging technologies to improve health care delivery. According to Lester Martinez-Lopez, assistant secretary of defense for health affairs, AI and ML help practitioners perform advanced diagnostics and monitor the military health ecosystem.

In August, AFWERX awarded Wallaroo .AI a Phase II Small Business Technology Transfer contract to support the military’s space missions.
