BigBear .ai Wins NAVWAR AI Prize Challenge

The Naval Information Warfare Systems Command has selected BigBear .ai as the winner of its Artificial Intelligence and Networks Advanced Naval Technology Exercise AI Prize Challenge.

AINetANTX AI highlighted how AI technologies can support Project Overmatch, a U.S. Navy initiative aimed at modernizing naval weapons to support the Joint All-Domain Command and Control concept.

According to BigBear .ai Chief Technology Officer Brian Frutchey, a Potomac Officers Club member, the competition demonstrated the ability of its action assessment AI to facilitate critical decision making in operationally relevant maritime environments.

L3Harris Technologies placed second, BigBear .ai said Wednesday.

NAVWAR awarded $100,000 in total cash prizes, with $75,000 going to the first place winner and the runner up taking home the remaining $25,000.

Submission of white papers for AINetANTX AI closed on Aug. 13 and participants were shortlisted more than a week later. Demonstrations were conducted on Nov. 4, after which NAVWAR deliberated and announced the prize challenge winners.

Another NAVWAR-initiated AI challenge wrapped up in November. Splunk emerged as the winner of the AI Applications to Autonomous Cybersecurity Challenge for its SOAR offering. Out of all the technologies showcased in the challenge, the Splunk technology was deemed the best at automating the detection and prevention of advanced persistent threats and other cybersecurity campaign activity.
