Brynt Parmeter Named Inaugural Defense Department Chief Talent Management Officer
The Department of Defense has selected Brynt Parmeter as the inaugural chief talent management officer. The Pentagon created the CTMO role within the Office of the Undersecretary of Defense for Personnel and Readiness to address challenges related to recruiting and retaining employees with expertise in space, cyber and other technology fields.
According to Deputy Secretary of Defense Kathleen Hicks, a past Potomac Officers Club speaker and a three-time Wash100 awardee, the agency prioritized the establishment of the new position knowing that growing and shaping the DOD’s workforce will help defend the nation from existing and future threats, Defense .gov reported.
As CTMO, Parmeter will help lead and drive the agency in identifying, recruiting and cultivating world-class talent. He will facilitate the development and implementation of the DOD’s talent acquisition and management strategy, oversee reforms for remote and hybrid work and encourage the rotation of talents across components, agencies and nongovernmental entities.
Parmeter previously was Walmart’s head of non-traditional talent responsible for developing a strategy to enhance personnel skills. He also held other senior-level roles at the company, including senior director for STEM programs and senior director for military programs.
Prior to joining Walmart, he led talent management efforts at the U.S. Army Human Resources Command, supporting roughly 160,000 service members.
