Chris DeRusha to Lead Google Cloud’s Global Public Sector Compliance

Google Cloud has appointed Chris DeRusha as the chief of its global public sector compliance unit.

DeRusha, the former federal chief information security officer and deputy national cyber director, will oversee the expansion of Google Cloud’s artificial intelligence, cloud computing and security products within the United States and internationally, FedScoop reported.

During his three-year stint as federal CISO, DeRusha, a past Potomac Officers Club event speaker and a past Wash100 awardee, contributed to the development of the White House’s AI executive order, the 2021 cybersecurity EO and the national cybersecurity strategy and implementation plan.

Jeanette Manfra, Google Cloud’s global director of security and compliance, said DeRusha’s extensive experience in security and critical infrastructure programs across both private and public sectors will greatly benefit Google Cloud and its government clients.

DeRusha’s Google Cloud appointment marks his return to the private sector since his 2018 stint at Ford Motor Company as manager of enterprise vulnerability management and application security.

Previously, DeRusha held cybersecurity roles at the Department of Homeland Security, the White House and at the State of Michigan and was part of President Joe Biden’s presidential campaign as CISO.
