DeepSig, Viettel Use AI to Enhance 5G Network Connectivity

DeepSig and Viettel High Technology Industries have tested the potential of artificial intelligence-enabled neural receiver software to improve 5G connectivity.

In partnership with Viettel, DeepSig integrated its OmniPHY-5G software into VHT’s Distributed Unit equipment based on 5G open virtualized radio access network architecture.

According to Jim Shea, CEO at DeepSig and a 4×24 member, the collaboration aims to improve 5G user throughput and validate increased radio performance.

With AI and ML-based algorithms, the software demonstrated its capability to enhance radio signal strength and lessen the impact of interference and noise on wireless communications, VHT said.

Trial results are expected to enable mobile network operators to enhance user experience quality without the need for additional hardware.

Nguyen Vu Ha, CEO of VHT, expressed confidence that the collaboration is the first industry effort to enable deploying AI and ML into ORAN standard device systems supporting 5G. According to the executive, data generated from the software’s deployment on the Viettel network informs AI and ML applications in communication systems.
