DOD Office to Automate Zero Trust Implementation Plan Assessment

A Department of Defense office is planning to automate the process of reviewing zero trust implementation plans from all defense components by October.

At the DOD Zero Trust Symposium on Tuesday, Randy Resnick, the director of the Zero Trust Architecture Program Management Office under the department’s chief information officer, highlighted the need to use automation, noting that 35 employees spent nearly four months reviewing 39 plans from military services, defense agencies and combatant commands in 2023.

According to Resnick, a past Potomac Officers Club speaker, his office will reach out to all defense components to explain the process of automating the implementation plans, including putting them in an electronic form, Federal News Network reported.

Defense agencies are required to submit such plans every October to support the DOD’s goal to implement a zero trust architecture by 2027.

Resnick’s office is planning to launch 15 pilots in the coming months to test zero trust tools and methods in various environments, including on-prem, private cloud.

According to the zero trust office director, the pilots will provide defense agencies with examples to inform their zero trust implementation effort.
