DOD Postpones Budget Request Deadline for Services

The Department of Defense has delayed the deadline for fiscal 2020 budget requests to allow military and civilian personnel to work from home during the coronavirus pandemic. According to Deputy Secretary David Norquist, each service branch had been required to submit a program objective memorandum on June 1. The deadline was supposedly preventing service officials from implementing new social distancing guidelines, Defense One reported Wednesday.

Each service is now only required to submit "major program change proposals" on the said date. The announcement came five days after Norquist asked the services to come up with an alternative to a deadline.

Officials from the Army, Navy and Air Force insisted that not enough is being done to protect them from the virus, which has reportedly infected four individuals in the Pentagon.
