Army Acquisition Head: Lack of Training, Resources Continues to Affect New Technology Adoption
The U.S. Army continues to struggle with resources and training amid rapid technological innovation, according to Doug Bush, assistant secretary of the Army for acquisition, logistics, and technology.
Speaking at the 2023 Interservice/Industry Training, Simulation and Education Conference, Bush, a past POC speaker and 2023 Wash100 winner, said the military branch is doing better in balancing resources but struggles when starting an acquisition program.
The service branch’s acquisition head also shared how the Army is looking for ways to make the most of artificial intelligence. Plans for AI use include supporting its business management to see greater efficiency and productivity, Breaking Defense reported.
AI is not the only new technology the Army is integrating into its operations. It has been preparing and rolling out innovations in recent years. In October, it started a study to look into the modernization of the Extended Range Cannon Artillery program, an initiative focused on enhancing BAE Systems’ Paladin M109A7 self-propelled howitzer.
It is also in the process of testing the Common Hypersonic Glide Body system, which forms part of the service’s Long-Range Hypersonic Weapon land-based, truck-launched system armed with hypersonic missiles that can travel over 3,800 miles per hour.
