DRT Strategies Transfers FDA Applications to AWS Cloud

DRT Strategies, an Amazon Web Services partner, has been supporting the Food and Drug Administration in migrating mission-critical workloads to the cloud and in creating a data lake for the agency.

Rick Goodwin, senior manager of the FDA Center for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition account at DRT, said the company developed cloud migration strategies, financial analysis and application rationalization as part of its effort to move CFSAN’s regulatory system to AWS. He added that DRT used the AWS Cloud Adoption Framework to determine how to migrate solutions from on-premise facilities to the cloud efficiently in line with the agency’s objectives.

Twenty-seven FDA workloads were transferred to AWS, including the Chemical Evaluation and Risk Estimation System, the Food Applications Regulatory Management and other CFSAN applications, DRT said.

The FDA cloud migration task is one of several lines of work DRT has performed to support U.S. government agencies.

In August, the company won the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Oracle CPAIS Applications Express Conversion contract. Under the contract, DRT was tasked to integrate Oracle solutions to improve USDA’s property management systems.

In September 2022, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry awarded DRT a one-year, $11 million task order for geospatial intelligence support under the Geospatial Research, Analysis and Services Program.
