POC – 9th Annual Defense Research and Development Summit
In response to rapid technological advancements around the world, the Pentagon is ramping up its research and development efforts in 14 critical and emerging technology areas which include AI, microelectronics and hypersonics, among others. The Department of Defense has identified these technologies as paramount to U.S. national security, and the list now serves as a guide for government and industry technology investments.
In the coming years, we can expect to see particularly increased investments in the Seed Areas of Emerging Opportunity category, which includes biotechnology, quantum science, future generation wireless technology (FutureG) and advanced materials. The Biden Administration’s recent Executive Order on biotechnology and biomanufacturing, for example, has invested $1.2 billion in accelerating biotechnology towards prototyping, operational demonstration and production, which is expected to strengthen U.S. national and economic security.
Learn more about the DOD’s 14 critical technologies, R&D priorities, mission needs and global defense concerns during the Potomac Officers Club’s 9th Annual Defense R&D Summit.
