Evolution Space Secures AFWERX Contract for Solid Propulsion Hypersonic Boost Solution Development
The U.S. Air Force has selected a contractor to develop hypersonic boost and target solutions for the Department of the Air Force.
On Wednesday, Evolution Space announced that it was selected by AFWERX to work on solid propulsion technology under a Small Business Innovation Research Phase I contract.
SBIR and Small Business Technology Transfer are projects led by the Air Force Research Laboratory and AFWERX that aim to help small businesses accelerate the proposal to award timeframe. The programs also aim to eliminate bureaucracy through continuous changes in contract execution, Evolution Space said.
Josh Marino, vice president of operations at Evolution, said the company is well-positioned to innovate solid propulsion, as it has been focused on advancing Agile product development and testing that allows it to address the expanding propulsion requirements.
AFWERX has been at the forefront of developing emerging technologies for DOD missions. In January, the Air Force awarded an AFWERX contract to Swarm AI technology developer Unanimous AI to use artificial intelligence to improve intelligence gathering during meetings.
The program also tapped Applied Intuition in May 2023 to join a program that will develop virtual sensor optimization software that will improve sensor performance, selection and evaluation.
