Executive Profile: Devon Engel, GDMS VP, General Counsel
Devon Engel has been the vice president and general counsel of General Dynamics Mission Systems, an integrator of information systems and technology, for nearly 24 years.
Before he joined GDMS in May 1996, Engel was a government contracts associate at Crowell & Morning. In that period, he actively published articles and frequently lectured about government contracts and other legal topics, according to his LinkedIn profile.
Since 2004, Engel has been on the board of directors of DrugFreeAZKids .org, a nonprofit organization that aims to reduce drug and alcohol use among children through education.
DrugFreeAZKids .org operates under the Partnership for Drug-Free Kids or the Partnership for a Drug-Free America, which is based in New York City.
He has also been a long-time supporter of charitable organizations such as United Way, American Diabetes Association and Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.
During his time as a private law practitioner in D.C., Engel gave free legal services on adoption matters. He is also credited with successfully opposing a high-profile petition to the Supreme Court.
Engel earned a doctorate in jurisprudence from the George Washington University Law School and bachelor's degrees in psychology and sociology from Emory University.
