Executive Profile: Tommy Gardner, CTO of HP’s Federal Unit

Tommy Gardner has served as the chief technology officer of HP's federal business unit for nearly three years. His responsibilities include technology leadership, strategic technology plans, product and technology strategies, Salesforce technical support and customer and partner relationships, according to his LinkedIn profile.

Gardner handles customers across the federal and education markets. Before he joined HP in July 2017, he served as the chief technology officer at construction and professional services provider Jacobs.

He briefly served as the president of Gardner Engineering and Technical Services, a certified service-disabled, veteran-owned small business.

Gardner also held executive and directorial roles in Scitor and ManTech. He also worked for nearly six years at Raytheon Technical Services, serving as director for the Department of Homeland Security and as technical director for the company.

He began his professional career with the Navy, holding positions related to engineering and sales. During his last three years in the service, Gardner served the science and technology division for the chief of naval operations. 

As an alumnus of several prominent universities, Gardner holds a doctorate degree in energy economics, a master's degree in science and technology, a master's degree in management of technology and a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering.
