Federal AI Efforts to Receive $3B Under White House FY2025 Budget Request

President Joe Biden’s $7.3 trillion fiscal year 2025 budget request would allocate $3 billion for federal artificial intelligence development, testing, acquisition and integration.

The request also includes $300 million in mandatory funding to aid agencies in reducing the technology’s risks and advancing use cases for public benefit, FedScoop reported.

An email shared by an Office of Management and Budget spokesperson indicates that the budget request allots $70 million to enable agencies to establish chief AI officer roles, $32 million to fill AI-related job positions and $30 million to finance the National AI Research Resource pilot. Such initiatives are intended to accomplish objectives laid out in Biden’s AI executive order.

Meanwhile, the Department of Commerce’s AI Safety Institute would receive $65 million to craft policies and best practices to mitigate AI risks.
