The Potomac Officers Club has been hosting events focused on the U.S. Navy since 2016. Topics of such events range from the service’s acquisition processes to information technology modernization efforts. The annual Navy Forum gives attendees a chance to hear notable and industry leaders discuss digital transformation efforts and other programs that will enable the Navy to become more effective in warfare across multiple domains.

POC Navy Events: A Recollection

  • The 2016 Naval IT Modernization Forum was one of the first POC events that centered on the military branch’s IT transformation efforts, cloud adoption and the role of industry in helping the Navy meet its goals.
  • The 2018 Navy Forum: Agility, Adaptability and Resiliency touched on the service branch’s need to reevaluate IT research and development and what naval acquisition should do to project power and forward presence in accordance with the National Defense Strategy.
  • The 2021 Navy Forum featured service and industry leaders discussing the service’s push to advance data management, strengthen data analytics and create technology pipelines. Speakers also cited the most pressing issues related to technology acquisition processes and digital transformation efforts.
  • The 2021 JADO Forum provided speakers from service branches and the Department of Defense a platform to discuss priorities and challenges to advancing the Joint All-Domain Operations concept, which seeks to provide warfighters a complete picture of the battlespace across land, sea, air, space and cyber domains to speed up decision-making and gain information and operational advantage over adversaries.

Notable POC Navy Event Speakers

  • James “Hondo” Geurts

    is performing the duties of the undersecretary of the Navy and a 2020 Wash100 Award recipient. He previously served as assistant secretary of the Navy for research, development and acquisition and acquisition executive for U.S. Special Operations Command.
  • Phil Davidson

    is a retired U.S. Navy admiral. His naval career included time as commander of U.S. Indo-Pacific Command and head of U.S. Fleet Forces Command and U.S. Naval Forces Northern Command.
