HII to Purchase Alion Science and Technology From Veritas for $1.65B
Huntington Ingalls Industries has signed a definitive agreement to acquire Alion Science and Technology from Veritas Capital in a $1.65 billion all-cash deal.
Alion serves customers in the defense sector and the intelligence community. The company specializes in developing artificial intelligence applications; spectrum management and electromagnetic engineering; developing live, virtual and constructive training solutions; and supporting intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance operations.
HII said Alion will be integrated into its technical solutions division upon completion of the transaction in the second half of 2021.
In a statement, HII Technical Solutions President Andy Green, a Potomac Officers Club member and 2021 Wash100 winner, noted the significant growth potential offered by the acquisition.
The deal would give HII access to Alion’s contracts and tech development expertise in the areas of cyber, data analytics and electronic warfare. The shipbuilding company would also be able to further its engagements with the U.S. Navy, one of Alion’s biggest revenue drivers, and other Department of Defense customers.
HII has made a number of strategic acquisitions and investments as of late.
In March 2020, HII purchased Hydroid, a Massachusetts-based unmanned underwater vehicles maker, for $350 million. Hydroid was integrated into HII Technical Solutions.
Additionally, the shipbuilder expanded its portfolio by acquiring Spatial Integrated Systems’ autonomy business. The acquisition was completed in December 2020.
HII also invested in Sea Machines Robotics, a software developer for unmanned surface vessels, in a bid to further its competencies across the unmanned systems market.
