INDOPACOM to Create New Directorate in Partnership With Defense Innovation Unit
The U.S. Indo-Pacific Command will partner with the Defense Innovation Unit to create the Joint Mission Accelerator, a new INDOPACOM directorate to advance the command’s top priorities.
DIU Director Doug Beck, a Potomac Officers Club event speaker, said during the Aug. 28 session of the National Defense Industrial Association’s emerging technology conference that his organization will supply the Joint Mission Accelerator’s deputy director and chief technology officer.
Beck, a former Apple vice president and a Navy Reserve Captain, became DIU director in May, with his appointment coming along with the unit’s realignment as a direct report to the secretary of defense.
According to Adm. John Aquilino, INDOPACOM’s commander, the JMA’s technology initiatives include systems for simulated training battle scenarios and Stormbreaker, an artificial intelligence wargaming program and mission partner environment.
The DIU will help the INDOPACOM directorate accelerate the development of a joint fires network, Beck said.
The Office of the Undersecretary of Defense for Research and Engineering will also be involved in forming the INDOPACOM directorate, Federal News Network reported
