Leidos Health CTO: Generative AI Will Disrupt Health Care Sector in 2024

Srini Iyer, vice president and chief technology officer at Leidos Health, said that generative artificial intelligence will be the biggest disruptor in the health care industry in 2024.

In an interview with Healthcare IT News, Iyer, a 4×24 member, said the technology is offering the sector a chance to embrace a significant change. He listed improved accuracy and relevance, better patient outcomes and increased efficiency as reasons hospitals and other organizations should invest in the technology, Healthcare IT News reported.

Iyer also tackled other aspects related to embracing generative AI in health care, emphasizing that building a generative AI workforce is a journey and organizations need to commit to continuously upgrading skills.

On developing trust in generative AI, he discussed the company’s Med-PaLM 2 project, a proof-of-concept that validates the trustworthiness of the technology when integrated into health care operations.

With the growing use of AI in the sector, the White House in December 2023 expanded its collaboration with health care institutions and the Department of Health and Human Services to address the AI risks. The move is part of the Biden-Harris administration’s greater goal of taking advantage of what the technology offers while ensuring its risks remain low.
