Leidos to Provide Defense Energetics Research Support Under $89M Task

Leidos has been awarded an $89M task order to provide energetics research and development support for the Office of the Secretary of Defense and the Combat Capability Development Command – Armament Center

The Air Force awarded the single-award, cost-plus-fixed-fee deal through its Information Analysis Center Multiple Award Contract. The award includes a five-year period of performance.

"We remain committed to the OUSD and CCDC-AC missions, the Picatinny Arsenal community and delivering critical technologies to the warfighter quickly and affordably," said Michael White, Leidos' vice president of mission operations and infrastructure protection division.

Encompassing Picatinny Lake and Lake Denmark, the Picatinny Arsenal is a military research and manufacturing facility located in Morris County, New Jersey.

Under the terms of the task order, Leidos will provide research and development focused on designing, synthesizing and scaling up energetic materials.

Energetic materials are a class of materials with the potential to release a high amount of stored chemical energy, which can result in a chemical reaction that causes transformation into other substances.

The contractor will transition developed processes to government-owned, contractor-operated or commercial facilities for scale-up.

"For more than 30 years, Leidos has provided innovative advancements in energetics research and development, and we are excited to continue this work for the U.S. Air Force," White added.

Leidos is a Fortune 500 information technology, engineering and science company headquartered in Reston, Virginia. It addresses the challenges of customers in the defense, intelligence, homeland security, civil and health care markets.

Its specialties include defense, intelligence, sensors, health systems, enterprise IT, cyber and systems integration.
