Liberty Defense Delivers First HEXWAVE Screeners to LANL

Threat detection solutions provider Liberty Defense has delivered two HEXWAVE walkthrough screening portals to the Los Alamos National Laboratory.

HEXWAVE uses millimeter-wave 3D imaging and artificial intelligence to detect metallic and non-metallic items, including weapons, explosives and other dangerous and prohibited items without the need for users to surrender ordinary objects. It also delivers automatic threat detection using AI and deep learning algorithms, assisting users’ decisions.

The screening portals were delivered in line with a LANL order for initial testing, Liberty Defense said.

The company has been at the forefront of personnel screening, having delivered and worked on novel solutions with its partners.

In late August, the company completed the first set of HEXWAVE systems and received orders from several organizations within and outside the United States. Bill Frain, CEO of Liberty Defense, said HEXWAVE was created with the support of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and the Transportation Security Administration.

In June 2022, Liberty Defense, alongside Battelle, secured a contract to develop new airport checkpoint screening technologies. Under the contract, Liberty and Battelle used the mm-wave-based HD-AIT body scanner and shoe screener technologies to develop, integrate and test high-definition imaging technology upgrade kits.
