3M Health Services Platform Achieves FedRAMP Authority to Operate Status

The 3M RevCycle health services platform is now available on the FedRAMP Marketplace after it was granted a fully authorized status under the Federal Risk and Authorization Management Program. The product provided by 3M’s Health Information Systems division allows users to access services, including natural language processing support for medical coding, clinical documentation integrity and medical terminology assistance. RHSP was duplicated to operate through Amazon GovCloud to achieve the authority to operate designation, 3M said.

According to Kim Aiello, 3M HIS director of federal market solutions, the FedRAMP ATO certification provides the platform with enhanced visibility and creates opportunities for the company to secure cloud-hosted contracts with federal agencies and develop more products and solutions that are cyber-secure and government-approved.

3M HIS is the first company division to offer a FedRAMP-approved platform. Despite the positive development, the company is experiencing a slowdown in business growth amid rising inflation and legal troubles. Management lowered its annual sales forecast and adjusted operating profit margin in the second quarter.

3M’s investors, meanwhile, raised concerns about the dividend payout when the company spins out its health care business at the end of 2023 and the legal liabilities the company faces as a result of lawsuits seeking damages over faulty earplugs supplied to the military.
