Advanced Cooling Technologies Secures NASA Contract for Rollout Purge Units

NASA’s Kennedy Space Center has awarded Advanced Cooling Technologies a contract worth over $6 million to design, manufacture and test two rollout purge units for NASA’s Mobile Launcher 2.

The RPUs will replace existing mini portable purge units and support the Space Launch System Block 1B program, ACT said.

They will be integrated into the ML2, a vehicle that transports rockets to the launchpad. The units will provide conditioned air to the service module and launch abort system on the Space Launch System during rollout and rollback operations.

The project involves a large-scale, rugged vapor compression system with customized controls to ensure functionality under various operating conditions.

ACT said it was selected for the project due to its past performance, expertise in vapor compression technology and its Tekgard product line. The company expressed its commitment to advancing space exploration and the aerospace industry.
