Aries Defense ISR Systems Added to Marine Corps Remote Surveillance Imager Capability Set
The U.S. Marine Corps has expanded its remote surveillance imager capability set with the addition of Aries Defense’s CheckPoints and Recon V OverWatch systems.
The Marine Corps Ground Reconnaissance, Scout, Sniper and Ground Sensor Platoon communities will deploy the systems to collect intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance data under the Terrestrial Collections Systems Ground Sensors program.
Douglas Pillsbury, president and CEO at Aries Defense, noted that the selection of Checkpoints and R5O kits is part of the first major update of the Marine Corps’ core reconnaissance and surveillance gear set in more than two decades.
According to Aries Defense’s website, Checkpoints, a low-voltage edge deployable video surveillance platform, can support digital and analog cameras to provide live full-motion video over terrestrial or satellite networks. It also features video recording, playback, picture and data collection, reporting and alerting capabilities.
The R5O system is a multisensor thermal binocular designed to provide enhanced imagery and long standoff range during day and night operations. It has built-in stabilization, a digital magnetic compass, GPS and a laser rangefinder to provide accurate range-to-target and precise geolocation, Aries Defense said.
