White House Discussion Bares AI Priorities in Health Care
A roundtable discussion between the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy and health care, academic, industry, and patient advocacy leaders has listed specific-use cases of artificial intelligence to improve health services delivery.
The roundtable participants tackled AI’s risks and benefits, with ideas on the technology’s responsible development discussed as well. The Biden-Harris administration’s priorities in AI development and deployment were also among the highlights of the roundtable’s working sessions, the White House said Friday.
AI adoption in clinical settings diagnoses is one specific area identified for patient care improvement, as the technology can halve staff workload and provide faster patient diagnoses.
The discussion also highlighted drug development as an AI frontier for streamlining new drugs’ discovery and testing.
OSTP Director Arati Prabhakar urged roundtable participants to leverage AI best practices to enhance health services, while also mindful of mitigating the technology’s risks.
She underscored the Biden-Harris administration’s efforts in driving AI development, such as the Blueprint for an AI Bill of Rights identifying the five guiding principles for public protection in the design, use and deployment of the technology.
