AWS Tech Lead Pinpoints Approaches to Secure Edge Computing for US Overseas Offices

Amazon Web Services offers two solutions to help U.S. government agencies outside the continental United States overcome edge computing challenges, such as network communication delays and lack of security controls for authorization to operate.

According to Naresh Dhiman, AWS senior solutions architect, the remedies available to OCONUS federal agencies are the AWS Modular Data Center and the Trusted Secure Enclave cloud service.

Either or a combination of the two approaches can ensure compliance with the Federal Risk and Authorization Management Program and optimize performance and security, Dhiman wrote in a blog post on the AWS website.

The AWS MDC’s capability to operate low-latency applications in areas with limited infrastructures makes the solution suitable for uses in military maneuvers, disaster responses and similar scenarios, the AWS tech leader explained. With the solutions, data centers can be established as adjustable to temporary computing and storage requirements, he added.

Adopting the TSE approach calls for a solution’s implementation within AWS commercial regions outside the United States, according to Dhiman. The comprehensive components set up in the AWS global cloud infrastructure make the environment more secure and authorization-compliant for federal agencies’ applications, he added.
