CDAO Accelerates AI, Analytics Deployment With New Strategy

The Chief Digital and Artificial Intelligence Office has adopted a new strategy to accelerate how it scales data, analytics and artificial intelligence capabilities.

On Thursday, the CDAO introduced Open DAGIR, which stands for Open Data and Applications Government-owned Interoperable Repositories, an ecosystem that will support the Combined Joint All Domain Command and Control architecture. The program follows the deputy secretary of defense’s 2021 Creating Data Advantage memo, which allows the Pentagon to retain data ownership.

For its initial set, it awarded two mission command application contracts, including a prototype other transaction award to rapidly and securely onboard third-party vendors to meet priority Combatant Command digital needs, Defense .gov reported.

CDAO Radha Plumb, a past Potomac Officers Club event speaker, said that Open DAGIR will put the country’s world-class software developers in a position to create capabilities for warfighters and decision-makers.

AI deployment and development are among the ongoing initiatives at the DOD. In February, the CDAO collaborated with Scale AI to establish a test and evaluation framework for large language models, which will also help identify generative AI models for military applications.
