CDC Outlines Achievements in Improving Data Sharing Between Health Care Providers, Agencies
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has outlined its achievements in addressing roadblocks in exchanging data between health care institutions and public health offices and laid down the next phase of its work.
In the CDC’s 2023 Lookback Report, the public health agency named the growing number of facilities using electronic case reporting as its major achievement in the 2023-2024 period.
For its updated Public Health Data Strategy for 2024-2025, the agency aims to expand the rollout of electronic case reporting to help accelerate the detection of novel and emerging threats and diseases and connect public health to health information technology to facilitate faster sharing of information, the CDC .gov reported.
Aside from eCR effort, the CDC also launched a program to modernize its public health laboratory informatics and data exchange services for its Laboratory Response Network. The 2022 effort saw the agency collaborating with ICF to ensure the CDC Center for Surveillance, Epidemiology and Laboratory Services can rapidly respond to all kinds of public emergencies.
