CENTCOM Air Base Sees Enhanced Communication System Following Six-Month Improvement Effort

Signal officers belonging to the 1st Theater Sustainment Command Operational Command Post have almost completed establishing a communication system throughout the 1st TSC Alternate Command Post. Located within the U.S. Central Command area of responsibility, the alternate command post is an air base that functions as a secondary location from which the 1st TSC OCP can operate.

Work began at the facility six months prior. Capt. Devin Lajoie, one of the signal officers working on the effort, said in an interview that improvements to the base’s communication system include the installation of wiring that allows for more communication workstations. According to Lajoie, the base currently has 30 workstations with provisions for 130 more, whereas initially, communication “was basically functioning out of one room”.

The base also now enjoys connectivity provided by Starlink, which increased bandwidth ten-fold. Initially, the base relied on the 20 megabits per second offered by its tactical secure internet protocol router/non-secure internet protocol router access point system, DVIDS reported.
