Chris Inglis Stresses Holistic Approach to AI Implementation
Former National Cyber Director Chris Inglis is calling for a holistic approach to artificial intelligence and machine learning.
Speaking at a National Artificial Intelligence Advisory Committee meeting on Tuesday, he explained that regulators need to look after the “technology, people and doctrine” elements behind AI and other systems of interest, Nextgov/FCW reported.
Inglis, a past Wash100 winner, suggested that regulators clarify the principles behind an AI tool’s purpose and secure a skilled workforce that can maintain alignment with that doctrine when implementing and using the tool.
He emphasized that human operators need to be prepared to perform their roles within the system. No amount of built-in intelligence can compensate for the lack of human beings, Inglis said.
Human-centered design is a priority in the White House’s effort to regulate AI and other emerging technologies.
On March 21, join the Potomac Officers Club’s 5th Annual AI Summit, where federal leaders and industry experts converge to explore the transformative power of artificial intelligence.
