CISA to Rollout its CDM Program to Non-Traditional Assets

The Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency is bringing its continuous diagnostics and mitigation program to operational technology.

CDM Program Manager Matt House said the agency has made significant achievements in its asset management initiative and intends to utilize internet of things and other connected devices to make sure every federal office makes the most of the solution.

The CDM is part of the government’s broader initiative to manage and secure nontraditional systems. The 2024 Federal Information Security Management Act from the Office of Management and Budget mandates that federal agencies create an enterprise-wide inventory of covered IoT assets by the end of fiscal year 2024, Federal News Network reported.

Securing information has been one of the many initiatives at CISA. In December 2023, the agency sought industry feedback on its draft “secure by design” guidance, including questions on integrating cybersecurity into computer science education.

As for operational technology, the Air Force Sustainment Center is seeking information on available commercial off-the-shelf solutions that would help the service monitor, manage and analyze IoT operational technology to augment its aircraft maintenance operations.
