Federal CIO Urges Continued Funding for Technology Modernization Fund

Clare Martorana, federal chief information officer, is calling on Congress to support the Technology Modernization Fund, following a recent proposal to reduce funding for the General Services Administration-run initiative, FedScoop reported.

Martorana, who is also TMF’s board chair, emphasized the fund’s mission of ensuring the efficient allocation of funds towards technology projects through a rigorous review process.

Martorana expressed confidence that the TMF’s contributions will become increasingly evident to Congress as more projects reach completion, underscoring the fund’s role in supporting the government’s broader goals of enhancing national cybersecurity and public service delivery.

Talking about the TMF’s plans, she pointed to ongoing efforts within the council of chief artificial intelligence officers to streamline tech deployment within agencies by potentially reducing project completion times by two years.

Martorana also mentioned further efforts to establish a robust AI infrastructure across federal agencies. She expressed optimism that advancements by larger agencies will have a positive ripple effect, enabling smaller agencies to leverage innovations and empower the federal workforce to participate in the technological transformation.
