Commerce Department Shares Plans to Improve AI Safety, International Collaboration
The Department of Commerce has released its strategic vision for artificial intelligence, laying out its plans on how to approach AI safety and enhancing collaboration with international partners to ensure the emerging technology remains safe.
The strategic vision aims to achieve AI safety by advancing the science behind it, spreading safe practices and supporting organizations engaged in ensuring the technology’s security.
At the AI Seoul Summit in South Korea on Tuesday, U.S. Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo also shared plans to improve global scientific community collaborations, focusing on the promotion of safe, secure and trustworthy AI, Commerce .gov reported.
Formed in February, the AISI was born out of the Biden administration’s executive order on AI and has been working to create guidance for red-teaming, capability evaluations and watermarking synthetic content, among other initiatives that ensure AI safety.
In November, Raimondo also made the same call to the international community, asking for their input to ensure AI safety and trustworthiness. The National Institute of Standards and Technology said the feedback is crucial in carrying out the mandates from the Biden AI executive order.
