Timothy Haugh: New CYBERCOM Task Force to Deploy AI in Cybersecurity

The U.S. Cyber Command has established an artificial intelligence task force with the application of AI in cybersecurity as one of its goals, Gen. Timothy Haugh, CYBERCOM commander, said in his opening keynote speech at the Vanderbilt University’s Summit on Modern Conflict and Emerging Threats on Wednesday.

The task force is part of the integrated AI development approach of CYBERCOM and the National Security Agency, which Haugh also heads.

Haugh, a 2024 Wash100 award winner, also disclosed that the command has collaborated with over a dozen partner organizations to pursue the implementation of the command’s AI road map, which Congress mandated under the fiscal year 2023 defense policy bill, DefenseScoop reported Wednesday.

The road map also focuses on fostering AI adoption and neutralizing AI threats while exploring emerging opportunities, according to Haugh.

Haugh noted earlier in a House Armed Services Subcommittee on Cyber, Innovative Technologies and Information Systems hearing that the command’s AI road map has identified the technologies for consideration and testing for U.S. defense forces.

He noted earlier in a House Armed Services Subcommittee on Cyber, Innovative Technologies and Information Systems hearing that the command’s AI road map has identified the technologies for consideration and testing for U.S. defense forces’ use. During the hearing, Haugh also stressed CYBERCOM’s force optimization initiatives to stay ahead of adversaries, such as China and Russia, in the cyber domain.
