Kevin Mulvihill to Spearhead Network Modernization as Pentagon Deputy CIO
Kevin Mulvihill is set to assume a pivotal role as the Pentagon’s deputy chief information officer for command, control and communications, charged with directing and overseeing extensive network modernization efforts.
Initially serving in an acting capacity, Mulvihill’s appointment follows his predecessor Frederick D. Moorefield Jr.’s departure, DefenseScoop reported.
With a background spanning tactical to strategic levels, Mulvihill’s broad understanding of Pentagon CIO programs positions him to lead key initiatives, ensuring modernization and enhanced support for the warfighter, encompassing areas like satellite communications and positioning, navigation and timing to cutting-edge 5G/Next G technologies.
His responsibilities include strategic direction, policy guidance and oversight of network-related initiatives, ensuring comprehensive capabilities departmentwide in the areas of spectrum, communications systems, coalition information-sharing, tactical network management, PNT, waveform management and enterprise mobility.
His teams are tasked with the integration of operational-level command, control, and communications, aligning with joint and coalition operations.
