Department of Energy to Fund Research Into Enhancing the Cybersecurity of Manufacturing

The Department of Energy and the Cybersecurity Manufacturing Innovation Institute, a public-private partnership led by the University of Texas at San Antonio, are soliciting research proposals with the aim of enhancing the cybersecurity of manufacturing in the United States.

A request for proposals issued by the organizations says that projects must fall within three industry use cases.

Under the first use case, projects must look into controls that could be put in place to secure the production and supply chains behind industrial control systems.

Under the second use case, projects must look into practices small and medium-sized manufacturers could adopt to ensure the security of their digitalization efforts.

Under the third use case, projects must look into how the integrity of additively manufactured products can be secured, and how the digital history of such products can be tracked.

The federal government will offer up to $4.7 million in funds for the effort.

Interested parties have until Sept. 29 to submit proposals. A webinar will take place on Sept. 6 to provide more information about the opportunity, the DOE said.
