DOD Rolls Out IT Advancement Strategy to Modernize Defense Technology
The Department of Defense has released the Fulcrum: DOD Information Technology Advancement Strategy to guide the department in modernizing its IT infrastructure and delivering enhanced capabilities to the military.
Signed and approved by Kathleen Hicks, deputy secretary of defense, the Fulcrum Strategy prioritizes user experience and agile, scalable infrastructure to meet dynamic operational needs and modern technology opportunities, Defense .gov reported.
The strategy is structured around four key lines of effort. First, it focuses on delivering functional, secure and scalable joint IT solutions that meet the demands of modern warfare, improving the warfighters’ access to information.
Second, Fulcrum seeks to modernize information networks and compute systems. By using a data-centric zero trust cybersecurity approach, the department aims to deliver a secure network with faster data speeds and improved global resilience.
Third, the DOD aims to streamline IT governance processes for better decision-making and cost-effectiveness. And finally, the strategy serves as a road map to recruit and develop top digital talent, including specialists in data, artificial intelligence and software engineering.
The Pentagon said each LOE will be supported by measurable objectives, allowing the department to track progress and ensure the successful implementation of the strategy.
