ECS to Help DEVCOM ARL Boost AI Capabilities for Warfighters

The U.S. Army Combat Capabilities Development Command’s Army Research Lab has tapped technology, science and engineering solutions provider ECS as a system integrator for extending artificial intelligence capabilities to Department of Defense services and warfighter commands.

ECS will perform the task under a three-year, $190 million contract it secured in the third quarter of 2023. The DEVCOM ARL initiative is a new effort to support DOD objectives through expanded research on AI technologies for military applications, ECS said Tuesday.

In February 2021, DEVCOM ARL awarded a five-year, $69 million contract to Parsons for research and development of technologies for combat applications, such as machine learning and high-performance computing.

Under the new ECS task order, the company will support the development and demonstration of advanced AI capabilities fostering mobility and agility across various DOD domains and programs.

According to John Heneghan, ECS president, a 4×24 member and 2024 Wash100 winner, the company will deploy in the contract the company’s extensive AI expertise to support the DOD’s automation goals focused on boosting the American warfighters’ safety, readiness and decision-making.

Marshall Thames, senior vice president of mission solutions and also a 4×24 member, noted ECS’ long history of working with the DOD to provide cloud, cyber, data and AI solutions
