Electromagnetic Spectrum Technologies Tested at NSWC Crane’s Silent Swarm 2023

Early-stage electromagnetic spectrum operations capabilities designed for small multidomain unmanned systems have been tested in an experimentation event led by Naval Surface Warfare Center, Crane Division.

Representatives from U.S. military branches, government labs and academic institutions and partners from Australia and the United Kingdom participated in Silent Swarm 2023. The event was held from July 9 to 21 at the National All-Domain Warfighting Center in Michigan, Naval Sea Systems Command said.

Assessing technology at an early stage is expected to break down barriers between the government and industry and accelerate product development and the transition of technologies to warfighters.

Sondra Laughlin, the deputy project lead for Silent Swarm at NSWC Crane, said the experiment allows technology developers to see how their products work in multidomain environments and identify the needed modifications to improve their offerings.

The Office of the Undersecretary of Defense for Research and Engineering Integrated Sensing and Cyber sponsored Silent Swarm 2023.
