GSA Official Discloses Pilot Projects, IT Recruitment Efforts Amid FedRAMP Modernization

The General Services Administration is focusing on various pilot projects and expanding its information technology workforce as part of an effort to modernize the Federal Risk and Authorization Management Program.

Speaking with FedScoop, Eric Mill, executive director for cloud strategy at GSA’s technology and transformation services, shared two ongoing pilots: one involving secure software development related to FedRAMP’s significant change request process and the other focused on a “trusted authorizing partner approach” through a partnership with the Defense Information Systems Agency.

On building the agency’s IT capabilities, Mill discussed how the tech workforce recruitment initiative is focused on “building out the future of how FedRAMP both organizes and asks itself questions inside… builds out the infrastructure for us to automate,” FedScoop reported

Mill said that the agency maturing into a “very open source-leading organization” has significantly helped in achieving greater effectiveness in any endeavor.

Apart from releasing the modernization plan in March, the Office of Management and Budget also introduced the FedRAMP Board in May. Replacing the Joint Authorization Board, the FedRAMP Board will be composed of seven representatives from the GSA and the departments of Defense, Homeland Security and Veterans Affairs, who will be overseeing FedRAMP policies and requirements.
