HHS Appoints Micky Tripathi as Acting Chief AI Officer
The Department of Health and Human Services has selected Micky Tripathi to serve as chief artificial intelligence officer in an acting capacity while a permanent replacement has yet to be named.
Tripathi will perform the CAIO responsibilities in addition to his existing work as the agency’s national coordinator for health IT and co-chair of the HHS AI Task Force, FedScoop reported.
“Micky has been a leading expert in our AI work and will provide tremendous expertise and relationships across HHS and externally to guide our efforts in the coming months,” an HHS spokesperson said.
Former CAIO Greg Singleton remains with the agency’s IT workforce, the spokesperson confirmed. He took on the role in March 2022, replacing Oki Mek.
The recent change was made after the Office of Management and Budget issued a memo stating that the CAIO role must be at the executive level to improve AI accountability.
