L3Harris Awarded Potential $187M Space Force Contract to Enhance Space Domain Awareness

The U.S. Space Force has awarded L3Harris Technologies a contract extension worth of up to $187 million to continue modernizing and maintaining critical space infrastructure.

The option year five contract is part of the Maintenance of Space Situational Awareness Integrated Capabilities program, which aims to spot and monitor deep space objects, providing prompt and reliable space surveillance information to military, civil and commercial users, L3Harris said.

L3Harris is tasked to upgrade the systems of the U.S. military’s space surveillance and command centers in Colorado, California and Virginia, enhancing its space domain awareness capabilities.

The contract award is an extension of L3Harris’ collaboration with the Space Force, following the $23 million contract awarded to the aerospace and defense company in February 2020, which involved maintaining and upgrading radar, optical sensors and command and control systems.

Ed Zoiss, president of L3Harris’ space and airborne systems division, emphasized the significance of the 10-year MOSSAIC program for the warfighters and expressed the company’s commitment to collaborating with the Space Force in maintaining a safe, secure and sustainable space domain.
