Lawmakers Propose AI Task Force Within CISA

A bill introduced in the U.S. House of Representatives would mandate the creation of a task force within the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency focused on addressing issues associated with artificial intelligence.

In a statement following the introduction of the CISA Securing AI Task Force Act on Tuesday, Reps. Troy Carter, D-La., and Bennie Thompson, D-Miss., members of the House Homeland Security Committee, said the task force will help the government with the safe and secure design, development and deployment of the emerging technology.

The task force is expected to provide advice to stakeholders on the risks associated with AI-enabled software and coordinate recommended secure AI products, FedScoop reported.

Carter, who is also a member of the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Protection Subcommittee, added that the bill promotes proactive risk mitigation and preparedness as AI slowly integrates with everyday American lives.

CISA had launched several initiatives in recent months aimed at improving the national cyber posture amid growing threats from foreign adversaries. On Wednesday, it released joint guidance with the Department of Homeland Security, the FBI and its international counterparts to help civil society better address cyberattacks.
