Leidos to Support NASA’s Cargo Mission Under Potential $467M Contract
NASA has awarded Leidos a potential $476 million contract to extend its support for NASA’s cargo missions.
The agreement entails providing crucial engineering and integration services for the International Space Station Program and the Artemis mission for the next two years, Leidos said.
Leidos will be responsible for analyzing and processing cargo for space missions, developing and manufacturing essential hardware and ensuring that the company meets the stringent launch, return and disposal requirements.
Additionally, the science and technology firm will continue to give engineering, maintenance and operational support to the space agency.
The contract work will primarily be conducted at Leidos’ facilities in Webster, Texas.
Debbie Wells, vice president of Leidos’ space exploration and mission operations unit, said Leidos has spent over two decades developing cargo that can endure rocket launch force and orbital microgravity, ultimately sustaining human presence in space.
One of the human-sustaining innovations Leidos developed is the Exploration Portable Water Dispenser, which is currently in use on the ISS, providing astronauts with clean drinking water.
