Lumen to Provide Managed Services for Navy Judge Advocates

Lumen Technologies, a telecommunications company, has been awarded a 12-year task order to provide connectivity and managed services for the Navy Judge Advocate General Corps.

Twenty JAG sites will have access to secure high-speed connectivity and WiFi delivered through software-defined wide area networking. The task order includes a one-year base period of performance and 11 one-year option periods, Lumen said Tuesday

SD-WAN is a virtual architecture that improves WAN performance by simplifying the network’s management and operation. The architecture was designed to address the low-latency and high-bandwidth requirements of modern communication applications.

The deal was awarded under the General Services Administration’s Enterprise Infrastructure Solutions, a $50 billion indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity contract that supports the government’s information technology modernization effort.

Zain Ahmed, regional vice president of Lumen’s federal government business, said the company’s services will help judge advocates provide timely legal solutions to Navy commanders, sailors and their families.

Judge advocates serve as commands’ legal advisers and are primarily concerned with military justice and military law. Their advice covers administrative law, government contracting, civilian and military personnel law, law of war and international relations and environmental law, among others.

Lumen said it provides adaptive networking, edge cloud, connected security and collaboration solutions to government agencies in support of secure IT modernization.

The National Archives and Records Administration, an agency responsible for preserving publicly available and historically valuable government records, recently also began transitioning to an integrated SD-WAN-based architecture.

According to contractor MetTel, NARA’s legacy infrastructure runs hub-and-spoke architecture, a model that uses a single hub system to facilitate all communication to and from the others.
