Marine Corps Details AI Use Strategy to Improve Decision-Making Process
The U.S. Marine Corps has detailed plans to maximize the benefits offered by artificial intelligence to improve the decision-making process.
Under the “U.S. Marine Corps Artificial Intelligence Strategy,” the military branch aims to achieve five goals: aligning AI use to mission requirements, creating a competent AI workforce, creating a standard for AI deployment, establishing policy and governance structures for the technology, and forming and nurturing partnerships to facilitate ease of knowledge and resource sharing.
The strategy comes after the Ukraine-Russia conflict demonstrated the vital role of AI in supporting warfighters’ decision-making process amid combat, Marines .mil reported.
According to the document, incorporating advanced AI capabilities into the Marine Corps will result in improved lethality and efficiency amid increasing competition in modern warfare. It added that such would only be possible with the support of informed leadership, a skilled team and strategic partnerships.
The service has been exploring potential AI uses in recent months. In August, it sought information from vendors on using commercial chatbots to support the use of multilevel tactical data systems for geospatial intelligence.
