MDA, Lockheed Martin Collaborate on C2BMC System Modernization
Lockheed Martin will support the Missile Defense Agency in developing the Command and Control, Battle Management and Communications system.
On Thursday, the MDA announced that it had awarded an indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity contract with a maximum ceiling amount of $4.1 billion and an ordering period from May 1, 2024, to April 30, 2029.
The C2BMC-Next initiative involves upgrading the system with modern technology for faster, multi-domain coordinated responses to emerging threats, Lockheed Martin said.
Erika Marshall, C4ISR vice president at Lockheed Martin and a 4×24 member, said that while the C2BMC system has proven its reliability in providing communication, integrating the solution with multi-domain coordination capabilities will make it a game changer for defense applications.
The two organizations started collaborating on the project in May 2023. C2BMC aims to make the most of what artificial intelligence and machine learning offer to improve threat tracking, targeting and engagement.
Aside from C2BMC-Next, the agency has been engaged in multiple modernization efforts. The MDA collaborated with HII in August 2023 to develop an integrated and layered system for intercepting adversary missiles.
