Melissa Dalton Confirmed as New Air Force Undersecretary
The U.S. Senate has confirmed Melissa Dalton as Air Force undersecretary, eight months after President Joe Biden’s nomination.
In her new role, Dalton will be responsible for assisting Air Force Secretary Frank Kendall in overseeing both the Air Force and Space Force, the service said.
Kendall, a 2024 Wash100 awardee, highlighted Dalton’s extensive public service, which includes deployments in Afghanistan, and viewed Dalton’s experience and expertise as crucial for addressing national security challenges.
The Air Force secretary also stressed how Dalton’s appointment as the second highest-ranking civilian leader will benefit the airmen and guardians.
Dalton takes over from Kristyn Jones, who served as acting undersecretary since March 2023 while also performing her duties as assistant secretary for financial management and comptroller.
Kendall also acknowledged Jones’ contributions and leadership during the interim period.
