National Energy Technology Laboratory Prepares to Migrate Research Data Platform

The National Energy Technology Laboratory is migrating a virtual research data platform to a multicloud environment to better support larger datasets, faster throughput, secure collaboration and other tools and resources.

The Energy Data eXchange platform provides access to research funded by the Department of Energy’s Office of Fossil Energy and Carbon Management, NETL said Thursday.

According to the laboratory, EDX ensures that research papers are discoverable on federated search engines and raises the visibility of data submissions. The platform is intended to support data development from initial research collaboration to publication and final data release.

EDX is also meant to provide secure workspaces with communication, data storage and data sharing functionality.

The platform recently received a geospatial data visualization tool to improve the online mapping experience.

NETL said the EDX upgrade will also support the Science-based Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning Institute’s mission, which requires modeling, data analytics and high-performance computing capabilities.
